Session recordings
Watch sampled in-app sessions back, safely.
Charts tell you what happened; recordings show you why. Session recording captures how a customer actually moved through your app (clicks, pages, scrolling) and lets you watch it back like a video. It's the difference between "40% drop off at step two" and seeing the exact moment someone hesitated, clicked the wrong thing, and gave up.
You'll find your recordings under Behavior › Recordings: filter by app, shop, or date, click a row to watch, and delete any recording with one click. Each row shows when it expires; recordings keep themselves for 30 days and then delete on their own.
Turn it on
Recording rides on the PartnerConsole Pixel, so set that up first if you haven't.
-
Open your app in the console, click Settings in the top right, and find the PartnerConsole Pixel card.
-
Under Session recording, click Turn on.
-
Pick a sample rate (10 to 100% of sessions) and a mask level.
New sessions that sample in start appearing under Behavior › Recordings within minutes.
Private by design
Recordings can show your customers' own data on screen, so the defaults are strict:
- Everything typed into a form is always masked. You'll see
•••••in the replay, never the text. - Mask all text goes further: every text node is redacted while layout and interactions stay visible, which is still plenty for UX debugging.
- Your developers can add a
pc-no-captureclass to any element that should never appear in a recording at all. - Only sessions with real interaction are kept. A customer who opens the app and leaves records nothing.
- The recorder can only see your app's own screen, never the Shopify admin around it or other tabs.
When to reach for it
Watch the sessions of trials that never activated and you'll usually find the same snag in the first three. Watch a session before answering a support ticket and you'll answer it in one reply. Watch the first ten sessions after shipping a redesign and you'll know whether it landed before the metrics can tell you.
